Who We Are

The National Farmers’ Co-operative Credit Union was established in February 1994 and was affiliated to the National Farmers’ Association (NFA), an umbrella organization serving Farmers in Saint Lucia.

NFCCU was established after a series of discussions and consultations with Farmers, with the different parties expressing support for a financial institution for the economic development and advancement of farmers, their families and farming communities in Saint Lucia.

The National Farmers’ Co-operative Credit Union was registered on December 06, 1995 in accordance with the Saint Lucia Co-operative Societies Act. On June 07, 2005, National Farmers’ Co-operative Credit Union was renamed National Farmers’ and General Workers Co-operative Credit Union Society Limited in keeping with an AGM resolution to broaden the bound of the Credit Union.

The National Farmers’ and General Workers Co-operative Credit Union Society Limited (NFGWCCUS) primarily exist to promote thrift among members, by saving together and providing low interest loans to members and by extension their families.

The operation of the Credit Union is governed by the Saint Lucia Co-operative Societies Act no. 28 of 1999 and its registered Bylaws. NFGWCCUS’ first office was located on High Street, Castries. Currently, NFGWCCUS operates two branches, in Louisville Avenue, Vieux Fort and on 13 Bridge Street, Castries.

NFGWCCUS has a directorship of seven (7) Board Members who develop policies for guidance on the operations of the Credit Union. The Credit Committee consists of five (5) Committee Members who serve with the purpose of loan ratification and approval when required. The Supervisory Committee serves as the watchdog of the Credit Union and supervises the operations the Credit Union. The General Manager is appointed to oversee the daily operations of the Credit Union with the support of the Employees. All persons who are residents and or citizens of Saint Lucia, their spouse, their children, whether they are self-employed or fully employed are eligible to become Members of NFGWCCUS.

In January 2021, our membership stood at approximately Fifteen Thousand (15,000) members.
